This prognosed growth can only be slowed down by the continuous development of alternative energies such as forward-looking hybrid technology for all types of vehicles. A short-term worldwide replacement for fossil fuels is not conceivable for the next 30 years. In 1960 to 1989, international companies conducted explorations in a search for oil and gas in Guinea-Bissau. In 1960, the Esso Group found onshore oil and gas deposits in the interior of the country. In 1991, the United Nations conducted a detailed study of the explorations for oil and gas resources in Guinea-Bissau.
